When former longtime WWE CEO Vince McMahon dreamt up WrestleMania more than 40 years ago, he envisaged a Superbowl-style set piece event to unite the franchise's commercial partnerships and burrow it deeper within popular culture.

Domestic captains outside of the current XI, the likes of Sam Billings or James Vince, were considered but a captain must be worth their place in the team.

King is an experienced boater and knows his boat like “the back of his hand,” said Vince.

“He’s been out on that ocean, on that jetty thousands of times,” Vince said.

“John never woke up,” Vince said.
