Field trials have been under way to identify the ones which can be sold as “white potatoes” in supermarkets.

“Unlike grains, white potatoes are strong contributors of potassium, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, and fiber,” the senators wrote in a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

The study said, "all white vegetables, including white potatoes, provide nutrients needed in the diet."

She told him to eat sweet potatoes, white potatoes, grapes and porridge as well as his usual chicken and broccoli.

But the idea of pan-seared fritters is an appealing one, and there is a world of options aside from white potatoes.
