Wildflowers spring to life in fancy clothes: showy golden balsamroot, cobalt and lemon-tinged camas, pearly whitlow grass.

I found the Nepeta and the ivy-leaved Veronica under the hedge; and whitlow grass near the old tower.

It is easy to miss whitlow grass in bloom; the mature plant can hide under a quarter with room to spare.

Unfortunately, the entire bloom season of whitlow grass is compacted into just a week or two — shorter if the weather suddenly warms.
