Clean your grill grate with a wire brush — a balled-up piece of aluminum foil works, too.

Never use a steel wire brush, which will harm masonry surfaces, including concrete.

Then clean off rust or mineral deposits on the shower arm with a wire brush, wrap plumber’s tape around the threads of the arm and screw the new shower head on.

Use a stiff-bristle brush or wire brush to dislodge any loose particles, wash and rinse the concrete, and rig up a simple form to support the lower edge of the patch while you shape the sides.
