In 2016, I broke my collarbone eight weeks before the Ironman World Champs and it was my mindset that carried me to the finish line.

I finally did make it to the finish line, panting and red-faced.

And the reason the marathon ends on the Westside is so runners can keep heading toward the beach, the coolest part of town, where they may cross the finish line well into a hot afternoon.

There were no fallers last year and 21 horses completed the race - the highest number across the finish line since 1992 - with four horses unseating their riders and seven pulled up.

Her father, explorer Sir David Hempleman-Adams, flew out to Canada to meet her at the finish line.
