Fishing will cease almost entirely during the ban covering an area from Finistere in Brittany to the Spanish border.

Local trains were canceled across a swath of western France, and all roads in the �󾱲Ծ�����è���� region of Brittany were closed Thursday morning.

About 1,300 people had to be relocated to camp sites or shelters, and several houses were evacuated in the Finistere city of Brest after a crane fell, Darmanin said earlier on social media.

Still, the storm in France showed some signs of abating with the Meteo France weather service reducing its alert for strong winds in Mache, Finistere and Cotes d'Armor from red to orange.

Some of the worst damage has been reported in �󾱲Ծ�����è����, in the far north-west, where gusts of 128mph were recorded at Pointe-du-Raz.
