My first experience with a prison town was visiting my father while he was caged in the Taylorville Correctional Facility of Illinois.

Bradley Jenkins, of Taylorville, of Illinois, was initially charged with third-degree felony domestic assault after 27-year-old Allissa Martin’s 2019 death.

He still lives in Taylorville, where he grew up ― less than 30 miles southeast of the state Capitol in Springfield and for 16 years ran the district office of a longtime congressman, John Shimkus.

While members of Congress don’t have to live in the district they represent, Davis of Taylorville raised it as an issue.
